Welcome
Here is a free guide on how to build a golfball display case. Many guides like this
will be published in future, so check back often.
This case can be customized with any of the options on the homepage. The dimensions are
left out so you can build it to your size.
- Decide what type of wood you will use.
- Make a rectangle frame, this will be the width and height of your case. Make pocket holes on the longer peices to connect them to the shorter ones.
- Make two rectangle sides, use the same height as your frame. The width of the side will be the thickness of the case. Once that is done, make dado cut for the shevles, makes these cut on the sides. The numbers of dado is the number of shelves and make enough space for a golfball on a tee. On a side note the diameter of a golf ball is 1.6inch.
- Make two or three pocket holes on each side to attach it your frame. Use more pocket holes with a bigger frame. Then attach it to your frame.
- Next you will need to make the top and bottom. Make it cover the top but make an extra inch in the front, left and right sides to give it a hang over. Now select a nice router bit, we used a classical bit. Router the three edges so the top of the bottom shelf is routered. Also router the bottom of the top shelf.
- Make some pocket holes on the bottom and top of the sides and frame to be able to attach it to the new bottom and top covers.
- The next step is making the shelves. Measure the length from dado to dado and that is the length of your shelves. The width of hte dado cut is the width of the shelves. The shelves can be skinny because they do not support much weight. Decide how far apart you will space the golf balls then makes marks to where you will drill the holes. The drill press is a great to when dilling this many holes.
- We chose to use natural golf tees so pick up a pack and cut them down to lenth a band saw. NOTE be very carefull when working so close to an open blade. Put glue in the holes and then insert the tees.
- The next step is to router out the inside of the back of the case so the plywood wil fit. Cut the ply wood to size and round off the corners so it will fit. Then glue it in the back and it will kept the shelves in place. Then later it will be attached using apoxie glue.
- Now build a door frame so that it will hang over on the side a half inch or so for a nice effect. Router out the inside so there is room for the glass.
- Now sand down the whole project and apply a few coats of finish. Then put on your hardware, glass and insert your favorite golf balls. Now you have built a golf ball display case.
